Wisdom That Always Knows What to Do and When

Holy Spirit: My Super Helper Series

In today’s world, everyone is working hard researching, strategizing, and putting in tremendous effort. Yet many find themselves frustrated, unable to achieve the results they desire despite their best efforts. The missing ingredient isn’t more hard work or better skills. It’s divine wisdom.

Solomon, the wisest person who ever lived, observed this phenomenon and wrote about it in Ecclesiastes 9:11:

“I have observed something under the sun: The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy, and those who are educated don’t always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time.”

What Solomon called “chance” and “being in the right place at the right time” is actually divine orchestration. And this is where the Holy Spirit comes in.

From Concealed to Revealed

The Old Testament is the New Testament concealed, while the New Testament is the Old Testament revealed. What Solomon described as “time and chance” becomes clear in the New Testament. Jesus promises in John 14:26:

“When the Father sends the Advocate as my representative, that is, the Holy Spirit, He will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.”

The Holy Spirit teaches us how to be at the right place at the right time. This isn’t luck or coincidence it’s walking in divine wisdom and following the Spirit’s guidance.

The Power of Divine Wisdom

God’s wisdom operates on a completely different level than human wisdom. First Corinthians 2:12-13 explains:

“We have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us. When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths.”

Isaiah 55:9 reinforces this truth:

“Just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”

When you operate with divine wisdom, your ways and thoughts become as high above average thinking as the heavens are above the earth. This wisdom is a game-changer. In fact, Proverbs 4:7 declares that “getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do,” and Proverbs 16:16 states, “How much better to get wisdom than gold, and good judgment than silver!”

Consider Ecclesiastes 7:19: “One wise person is stronger than ten leading citizens of the town.” The NIV puts it this way: “Wisdom makes one wise person more powerful than ten rulers in a city.” If you operate by this wisdom, you are more powerful than ten presidents, because this wisdom is as high as the heavens are above the earth.

How the Holy Spirit Guides with Wisdom

The Holy Spirit guides us with wisdom in several powerful ways:

1. Supernatural Knowing

The Spirit helps you know things supernaturally. Daniel 2:21-22 reveals:

“He controls the course of world events; he removes kings and sets up other kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the scholars. He reveals deep and mysterious things and knows what lies hidden in darkness, though he is surrounded by light.”

This wisdom helps you discern:

  • Whether you should work with someone or do business with them
  • If that person you’re dating is truly the right one
  • Business solutions and breakthrough strategies
  • What opportunities are coming and what properties or investments to pursue

Remember when Jesus met the Samaritan woman? He told her, “You have had five husbands, and the one you have now is not your husband” (John 4:18). This is the kind of insight the Spirit of God wants to give you, supernatural knowledge about situations, people, and opportunities.

2. Supernatural Understanding

Psalm 147:5 declares:

“How great is our Lord! His power is absolute! His understanding is beyond comprehension!”

The Spirit helps you understand and diagnose situations correctly. Sometimes, identifying what exactly is wrong is half the solution. God’s wisdom helps you understand clearly, and this understanding comes simply and easily. What others struggle with for a year, you can solve in a month or even a week because of supernatural understanding.

3. Supernatural Instructions

The Spirit gives specific instructions that produce the best results. Consider how Jesus solved complex problems:

  • When Peter needed money for taxes, Jesus gave him one simple instruction: “Go catch a fish.” Inside was a coin to pay the tax (Matthew 17:27).
  • When the Pharisees tried to trap Him about paying taxes to Caesar, He asked whose face was on the coin and answered, “Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar” (Matthew 22:21). One response silenced them.
  • When they brought the woman caught in adultery, Jesus wrote on the ground and said, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her” (John 8:7). Everyone left.

One supernatural instruction from God can settle matters that seem impossibly complex. Many conflicts in marriages, businesses, and personal challenges could be resolved with just one word from the Holy Spirit.

4. Supernatural Actions

God often tells us to take specific steps that deliver results. In Mark 11:2, Jesus gave precise instructions: “Go to the village over there. As soon as you enter it, you will see a young donkey tied there that no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here.” Following divine instructions leads to divine outcomes.

How to Walk in the Holy Spirit’s Wisdom

Understanding what the Holy Spirit can do is only the beginning. Here’s how to align yourself to receive and activate His wisdom daily:

1. Seek the Revealed Wisdom of God in Scripture

Second Timothy 3:16-17 explains:

“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.”

The foundation of all wisdom is the fear of the Lord (Proverbs 9:10). Without spending time in Scripture, you lack the foundational “food” that makes everything else work. Just as a hospital won’t give you medication on an empty stomach, God’s higher wisdom won’t fully manifest without the foundation of His Word. Make daily Bible reading and meditation non-negotiable.

2. Avoid Jealousy and Selfish Ambition

James 3:16-17 warns:

“Wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind. But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere.”

As a believer, you must be driven from the inside out, not from the outside in. When you’re constantly comparing yourself to others classmates, colleagues, even fellow church members you become distracted. You focus on external achievements and miss what God is uniquely doing in your life. You have no mates in this world. You’re in a lane of your own. God’s plan for you is totally unique. Stay focused on what the Spirit is showing you, not on replicating someone else’s testimony.

3. Learn to Trust in Him

Proverbs 3:5 instructs us:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.”

And James 1:5 promises:

“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.”

Whatever challenge you face right now, there is a way out. God will never allow you to be tempted beyond what you can bear, and He always provides an escape route (1 Corinthians 10:13). Trust that the Holy Spirit’s route is always the best, it leads to promotion and breakthrough.

4. Walk with the Spirit Daily

God’s wisdom isn’t just a concept or idea, it’s a Person. First Corinthians 1:24 declares:

“To those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.”

Colossians 2:3 adds:

“In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”

When you cultivate relationship with Christ through the Holy Spirit, He constantly releases wisdom to your soul. You just know what to do at each moment. If there’s one goal you should have this year, it’s to develop a stronger walk with the Holy Spirit. Spend time with Him daily. Talk to Him throughout your day. Be consistent—not hot one week and cold the next. When you walk with Him daily, He’ll show you what to do and guide you to be at the right place at the right time.

Conclusion

Success in life isn’t ultimately about being the fastest, strongest, or most skilled. It’s about being at the right place at the right time, doing the right thing—and the Holy Spirit makes this possible through His divine wisdom.

Take time today to assess yourself:

  • Am I really walking with the Spirit of God?
  • What can I do better from now on?
  • Do I trust Him when things work and when they don’t?
  • Am I avoiding jealousy and selfish ambition?
  • Am I giving proper attention to Scripture—the foundation of all wisdom?

From today, your life is transformed. Your eyes see clearly, your ears hear clearly, and your heart understands clearly. You will be at the right place at the right time. Your walk with God is strengthened. You’ll learn to trust Him more, study His Word more, pray more, and have more alone time with Him. This time next year, you’ll look back and say, “I am not the same person,” because God’s wisdom is manifesting in your life in full dimension—through supernatural insight, knowledge, understanding, actions, and instructions.

You’ll know what to do at the right time, in the right place, doing the right thing. This is your testimony from today forward, in Jesus’ name.

Prayer

“Lord Jesus, I come to you just as I am. I believe you died on the cross and on the third day you rose again for my justification. From today I want to live for you. I want to serve you all the days of my life in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
