HOLY SPIRIT: MY SUPER HELPER

Series: Holy Spirit My Super Helper (Part 1 of 2)

Introduction

This is a two-month series titled Holy Spirit My Super Helper. God has promised that this year is going to be a game-changer for us. We are going to see significant turning points in our lives, and we can’t do these things without the help of the Holy Spirit. God wants to help us learn how to follow the Holy Spirit and walk with Him to experience the wonders and the game-changing things that He has prepared for us this year.

Beyond this year, you need the Holy Spirit to win in character, in career and calling, to win in your health, your family, and your finances. This series is meant to help us experience the multifaceted dimension in our walk with the Holy Spirit.

John 14:16-18 (NIV)

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.”

The word “another advocate” or “another helper” is from the Greek word parakletos, which means someone who continues the same kind of help that Jesus Himself has been giving. Therefore, to understand and appreciate the ministry of the Holy Spirit, we need to look at the life of Jesus while He was bodily present on earth and ask ourselves: What kind of help did Jesus provide for the disciples?

Jesus, as the Parakleton, provided the following help to His disciples:

  • Teaching and Explaining Truth: Jesus constantly taught the disciples, explained parables, and walked them through Old Testament scriptures.
  • Guiding and Directing: He always provided guidance on where to go, what to do, and what not to do.
  • Empowering for Mission: He sent disciples out two by two with authority over demons, and they returned with testimonies of exploits.
  • Providing for Needs: While Christ was there, they never lacked. Money showed up miraculously (fish with coin in its mouth), and He fed 5,000 men plus women and children with five loaves and two fish.
  • Protecting from Danger: He stood for them against the Pharisees and Sadducees, calmed storms, and kept them safe.

Jesus was everything to the disciples—their provider, protector, guide, teacher, intercessor, and inspiration. The Holy Spirit is meant to be all of this and more for us today.

The Helper Is the Holy Spirit

Some people in other religions, especially Muslims, have claimed that when Jesus said He would send “another helper,” He was referring to Prophet Muhammad. However, this is incorrect. In John 14:17, Jesus was clear about who the helper is: “He is the Holy Spirit who will lead you into all truth.”

Moreover, Jesus said this helper would live in us. Muhammad did not live in anybody. He came, died, and went away. But the Holy Spirit lives in every believer. Romans 8:9 says, “But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you.”

The Holy Spirit Is a Person

Many people think the Holy Spirit is just an influence, a force, a dove, a gas, or a wind. But these are merely symbolisms used to describe His workings. The Holy Spirit is actually the Spirit of God—a spiritual being, a personality, just as Jesus is a person.

Genesis 1:1-2 reveals that the Holy Spirit was present from the beginning: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth… and the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.” He was involved in creation alongside God the Father and God the Son (the Word).

Acts 5:3-4 confirms that the Holy Spirit is God. Peter said to Ananias, “Why have you let Satan fill your heart? You lied to the Holy Spirit… You weren’t lying to us, but to God.” The Holy Spirit is God, possessing all the attributes of God.

The Holy Spirit Has Personality

As a person, the Holy Spirit has:

  • Intellect: He has knowledge, understanding, and can comprehend all things (1 Corinthians 2:10-11). “His Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets… no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit.”
  • Emotions: He can feel and be grieved (Ephesians 4:30). “Do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live.” He understands our emotions and comforts us.
  • Will: He makes decisions and distributes gifts as He chooses (1 Corinthians 12:11). “It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.”
  • Communication: He can speak, hear, and communicate (Acts 13:2). “While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, ‘Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work which I have called them.'”

The Holy Spirit speaks the mind of God and the mind of Christ to us at all times. If you don’t know what God wants to do in your life, it’s a call to develop intimacy with the Holy Spirit.

Not Left as Orphans

In John 14:18, Christ said, “I will not abandon you as orphans. I will give you the Holy Spirit.” This means that once you don’t experience and understand the workings of the Spirit in your life, you are like an orphan.

An orphan is someone left in a state of abandonment, loneliness, vulnerability, and weakness. Many believers today are like orphans because they have not developed intimacy with the Holy Spirit. But that was not God’s design.

Declaration: “I will never live like an orphan again!”

The Holy Spirit’s Role in Our Lives

1. Salvation and New Birth

You couldn’t have been born again without the Holy Spirit. Titus 3:5 says, “He saved us, not because of the righteous things we have done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit.”

2. Revelation of God’s Gifts

The Holy Spirit reveals to you the things that the Lord has given you. When you get born again, God gives you many things freely, and the Holy Spirit shows you those things, teaches you about them, and shows you how to walk in them and appropriate them in your life.

1 Corinthians 2:12 says, “And we have received God’s Spirit, not the world’s spirit, so we can know the wonderful things that God has freely given to us.”

Many believers are suffering today because they don’t know what they have. They live like orphans even though their Father has given them many things freely, because they haven’t developed that relationship and intimacy with the Holy Spirit.

3. Provision and Enjoyment

1 Timothy 6:17 says, “Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud or to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment.”

God richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. The believer is called to a life of enjoyment. If you are not experiencing this, there is a question mark about your walk with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is there to help you experience everything that God has richly given you for your enjoyment. You don’t need to struggle for anything.

Personal Testimony: Finding an Electrician

Over 20 years ago, I had just rented a new three-bedroom apartment and needed an electrician. I didn’t know where to find one in that new vicinity. The Spirit of God told me, “Let’s go. I will show you one.” I stepped out of my house, and He gave me specific directions: “Go right… go right… go left… keep going straight… turn right… look left.” I looked and saw a small inscription: “Call for an electrician here” with a number.

That experience changed my mentality. If the Holy Spirit can lead me to something as small and trivial as finding an electrician, how much more can He guide me to the big things—the next job, opportunity, business, investment, breakthrough, ministry exploit, and turning point my family needs?

Psalm 23:1 says, “The Lord is my shepherd. I have everything that I need.” Because the Holy Spirit is leading and guiding you, He will show you everything that you need.

4. Direction and Guidance

Zechariah 4:6 says, “It is not by force or by strength, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.” You are supposed to achieve things not by too much force and strength, but by the Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit will give you direction and tell you the way to go.

John 16:13 says, “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth.” God will lead you through His Spirit into all you need to know and where you need to be.

Testimony: Treasure City Headquarters

Our church headquarters, Treasure City, which we moved into on March 30, 2024, was a clear example of the Holy Spirit’s guidance. God gave us that place through divine orchestration. I had a dream twice that showed we needed to move quickly. Within 10 months, we completed the building.

Six months after we left our previous building, the government marked it for demolition. If we had still been there, we would have been stranded—there is no available hall in Yaba that can seat our current congregation. But the Holy Spirit, who sees what is ahead, nudged us, provided for us, and moved us in the right direction.

That same Spirit lives inside of you. He can see what is ahead, what is coming for you, and He wants to nudge you, direct you, and prepare you.

5. Empowerment for Mission

Acts 1:8 says, “You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses.” The Spirit of God empowers you for ministry, witnessing, and exploits for God.

6. Success in Career, Calling, and Character

The Holy Spirit can help you win in your career, calling, and character. Exodus 31:3 says, “I have filled him with the Spirit of God, giving him great wisdom, ability, and expertise in all kinds of crafts.” The Holy Spirit gives you special skills and crafts that make you excel where others struggle.

Galatians 5:22 talks about the fruit of the Spirit, which transforms your character. The Spirit of God will help you with revelation, provision, protection, inspiration, and every good thing in life.

The Aba Intelligence

Many people are scared that AI (Artificial Intelligence) will take away jobs and replace people. But we as believers have another intelligence within us—Aba Intelligence—the intelligence of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit has insight. He can see ahead, knows ahead, and will nudge you to move in directions where nothing can replace you. The believer should never be scared of AI or any innovation. In fact, you are the one who will break forth those innovations because you have the Spirit of truth who has intel and insight.

Conclusion

The Holy Spirit is your super helper. What do you need this year? What do you need in life? What do you want to achieve? What has God impressed upon your heart? Some of those things are bigger than you now, and you don’t even know how to achieve them. The Spirit of God is there to help you.

He wants to open your eyes and tell you, “This is the way to go.” He wants to open your heart and say, “This is how to go about it. This is how to do it.” He wants to lead you and guide you.

This year, you are here for a great year. This year you will experience a turning point. This year will be a game-changer for you in the name of Jesus. God’s Spirit will open your eyes as we go through this series. You will see the multifaceted dimension of how to experience the help of God. You will operate in a new level, go higher, succeed, and excel.

Declaration: “At the end of this year, this will be the best year that I ever had!”

The Holy Spirit’s first work is to get you born again. If you’ve not surrendered your life to Jesus, if you are not 100% sure that if the world ends today you’ll be with God in heaven, this is your opportunity to get into a new level of your walk with Christ.

Christianity is not a religion. Christianity is not a ritual. Christianity is not a set of rules and regulations. Christianity is relationship with God through the Holy Spirit.

Prayer for Salvation:

“Lord Jesus, I come to you just as I am. I believe that you died on the cross. On the third day, you rose again for my justification. From today I want to live for you. I want to serve you. I want to walk with you all of my life in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
