Introduction: We all encounter moments in life where we need more than just everyday blessings—we need extraordinary help. This kind of help goes beyond natural means, offering divine intervention, miraculous provision, and supernatural guidance. It’s the kind of help that only God can provide.
Throughout the Bible, we see examples of people who experienced extraordinary help from God. Consider Daniel, who was saved from the lion’s den by an angel (Daniel 6:22), Esther, whose courage and position led to the salvation of her people (Esther 4:13-14), and Elijah, who was sustained by ravens and a widow during a drought (1 Kings 17:4-16). Each of these stories shows how God’s intervention made the impossible possible.
But how can we position ourselves to receive such help? Psalm 46:1 reminds us, “God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.” The key is understanding who we are in Christ and aligning ourselves with God’s will.John 14:16 – And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever. 1. Understanding the Need for Help At some point, we all face situations where human effort isn’t enough—whether in our families, finances, health, or spiritual life. In these moments, the good news is that God is our ultimate Helper. Psalm 121:1-2 says, “I will lift up my eyes to the hills—from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.”
God’s extraordinary help isn’t something that we can create or earn; it’s supernatural. When the Israelites were trapped between the Red Sea and the Egyptian army, it was only God’s miraculous intervention that parted the waters (Exodus 14). Just as a child cannot reach the top shelf without their parent’s help, we must acknowledge our limitations and rely on God’s limitless ability.
2. Positioning Yourself for God’s Help How do we put ourselves in a place where we can receive God’s extraordinary help? There are three key principles: trust, obedience, and humility.

Trust and Dependence on God: Proverbs 3:5-6 encourages us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” Trusting God opens the door for His help. When we stop relying on our own strength and fully depend on Him, we invite His intervention.
A powerful example of this is found in 2 Kings 4:1-7. A widow in desperate need came to the prophet Elisha, trusting that God could provide. With only a small jar of oil, her faith led to a miraculous provision that saved her from debt. Trusting in God’s ability led her to receive extraordinary help.
- B. Obedience to God’s Instructions: Obedience is crucial in positioning ourselves for divine intervention. In Luke 5:1-11, Peter obeyed Jesus’ instruction to cast his net into the water after an unsuccessful night of fishing. His obedience resulted in a miraculous catch that exceeded all expectations.
Sometimes, God’s help is waiting on the other side of our obedience. Even when His instructions don’t seem logical, obedience opens the door to the supernatural.
- C. A Heart of Humility: James 4:6 reminds us, “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Humility means acknowledging that we can’t do it all by ourselves—we need God’s help. Pride can block us from receiving God’s extraordinary assistance, but humility allows His grace to flow into our lives.
Naaman, a powerful commander, almost missed his healing from leprosy because he resisted the simple instruction to wash in the Jordan River (2 Kings 5). It wasn’t until he humbled himself and followed God’s direction that he received his miraculous healing.
3. Persistence in Prayer Prayer is another essential key to positioning ourselves for extraordinary help. Luke 18:1 reminds us to “always pray and not lose heart.” The story of the persistent widow shows us that through unwavering prayer, we can invite God’s intervention.
In Acts 12, when Peter was imprisoned, the church prayed earnestly for his release. As a result, an angel miraculously freed Peter from his chains. This story illustrates the power of persistent prayer in unlocking divine help.
