Spiritual Growth, Never too Early, Never too Late

Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it – Proverbs 22:6.

Time plays a role in your physical growth, but it doesn’t necessarily dictate your spiritual growth. You must take responsibility for your spirituality and relationship with God. While you can receive support from loved ones and mentors, ultimately, it’s up to you. You can be old and spiritually immature because such a person has not understood the ways of God. Conversely, you can be young and spiritually mature. It’s not about your age but the attention you give to your spiritual growth

Spiritual maturity isn’t determined by age but by the attention you give to your spiritual growth.

Spirituality resides within believers. Romans 8:11 states, And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you. Your spiritual growth depends on the effort you invest.

Now is the time to lay the foundation for spiritual growth. There are two reasons for this:

1. You can equip yourself with the tools to navigate the realms of this life as a Christian Matthew 4:1-11 Jesus had the spiritual foundation to steer and navigate the issues of life. As children, our foundation as  Christians will arm us against people and situations of life. Do you have the biblical foundation to stand on? Do you have the spiritual foundation to resist the devil and navigate the storms of life?

2. It allows you to be the rich soil in which good principles can sprout – Can you be rich soil in which seeds can be planted and fruit can blossom from? Are you committed to good Christian practices? Spiritual growth means commitment to the minimal things of praying, giving, serving, and charity even when you are not being seen. This is because you have set yourself up on that foundation and grown that way. A Christian strives for constant growth Proverbs 4:18 The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. Be steadfast in your spiritual growth because your Christian attitude is one that strives for constant growth. Do not stay still in your spirituality. You should be constantly moving forward and constantly growing. 

Hebrews 5:12-14, 6:1 In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil. ‭Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death and of faith in God, 

It doesn’t matter whether you are a child or an adult. We all need to take responsibility for our growth.

‭1 Corinthians 3:7-9 So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor. For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.

In conclusion, don’t leave your spiritual growth to chance. Take responsibility for nurturing it.
