1. The Nature of the Word of God
2 Timothy 3:16–17
The Bible is not just any book. It is God-breathed and inspired, designed to equip us thoroughly for every good work.
Hebrews 4:12
Why does everything else often seem more important than God’s Word? Scripture is alive and powerful, sharper than any double-edged sword.
1 Corinthians 3:18
The Word of God is Spirit and life. It contains power to transform you—it becomes what you are reading. It’s as though God Himself is speaking directly to you.
2. Jesus as Our Example in Studying the Word
Luke 2:40
Jesus grew not only physically, but also in wisdom and knowledge of the Scriptures.
Matthew 4:4
Jesus fed on the Word of God. In the same way, we are called to hunger for it.
1 Peter 2:2
Desire the pure milk of the Word, that you may grow by it.
3. Our Attitude Towards Studying the Word
Deuteronomy 6:6–7
God commanded His people to give full attention to His Word. This kind of devotion shapes who you become.
Luke 2:46–47
At age 12, Jesus was found in the temple, sitting among teachers, listening and asking questions. Studying includes asking questions and seeking understanding.
A soldier prepares for war in times of peace. Likewise, prepare now—study the Bible, ask questions, and grow in it.
4. Repetition, Memorization & Personal Connection
1 Thessalonians 2:13
Another attitude toward study is repetition. Don’t grow tired of going over the same truths again and again.
2 Peter 1:12
Even when we know the truth, reminders are essential.
Memorize the Word.
You must be able to quote Scripture. Jesus confronted the devil with “It is written.” Speak the Word aloud—mutter it daily. As it enters your heart, it begins to work in you continually.
Daniel 9:2
Daniel understood by reading the Scriptures that the time of Israel’s captivity was ending—and he acted on it.
5. Make It Personal
Jesus knew the Scriptures were about Him. When you read the Bible, relate to it personally.
Read it as if God is speaking directly to you.
Everything God says about who you are is found in the Word. Believe it, receive it, and make it personal.
6. Be a Doer of the Word
Hebrews 5:14
Spiritual maturity comes by constant use—by practicing the Word, you train your discernment.
James 1:22–25
Don’t just hear the Word—do what it says. The blessing comes in the doing.
Matthew 7:24–27
The wise builder isn’t just the one who hears, but the one who practices the Word. The difference is in the doing.
Joshua 1:8
Speaking the Word isn’t enough—doing it is what brings results. Even if you don’t feel full of faith, obey anyway. Action makes faith complete.
Ignore your feelings. Act on God’s Word, and you will see the results.
