Rise Up To More

On this Mother’s Day, let us be reminded of who we are and that we are called to more.

Note: If you are a woman, you carry the attributes of God’s divine plan as a mother. Do not discount yourself from this message. Throughout Scripture, we find examples of women who, though not explicitly identified as mothers, displayed maternal qualities within their communities.

The Seed

God’s Word is a seed with the capacity to produce fruit. However, your heart can hinder its growth if you choose not to receive it.

Ephesians 1:3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy, He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

We start here: You and I have been birthed into a new life by the will and power of God.

John 1:12-13Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God—children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

As citizens in the kingdom of His dear Son, we have been granted full rights and privileges. It is time to believe the report of the Lord. If you struggle to believe what God says about you, how can you believe it for your children or those entrusted to your care?

Motherhood reflects God’s divine plan, established before the foundation of the world, to birth a people devoted to Him and eager to do good works.

We are birthed into a living hope. We have been given new life and appointed to nurture and bring forth life and light in desolate places by the Spirit of God.

Called to More

Jesus spoke about this in relation to John the Baptist:

Matthew 11:7-11As John’s disciples were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swayed by the wind? If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear fine clothes are in kings’ palaces. Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet… Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.”

John was more according to Scripture. Mothers—who are you? Are you defining yourself by God’s Word or by something else? What fills your daily thoughts?

  • The best makeup you can wear is the Word of God.
  • The most beautiful adornment is the Spirit of God and the fruit of the Spirit.
  • Your greatest potential is found in God’s Word.

It is time to rise beyond the limitations you have placed on yourself. You are called to mother nations. I believe God is raising up women who love Him and are willing to lay down their lives for His greater purpose.

Women Who Rose Above Limitations

Let’s look at two women in Scripture who, despite challenges, walked in faith and saw their stories take radical turns.

Tamar (Genesis 38:1-30) – A Woman Who Overcame Rejection and Adversity

  • Faith in God’s Justice – Tamar was left vulnerable when Judah refused to give her his youngest son as a husband, despite cultural customs. Rather than accepting defeat, she acted boldly to secure her future. Her story reminds us that faith in God’s justice brings ultimate vindication.
  • Perseverance Through Adversity – Though mistreated and left in uncertainty, Tamar refused to be a victim. Her story is a testament that God sees the struggles of mothers and rewards faithfulness.
  • Redemption Through Unexpected Means – Her actions led to the birth of Perez and Zerah, part of the lineage of King David and ultimately Jesus Christ (Matthew 1:3). This demonstrates that God can bring redemption from broken situations.
  • A Mother’s Role in God’s Greater Plan – Tamar played a crucial role in fulfilling God’s promise for the Messianic lineage. Like Tamar, mothers shape future generations and carry forward God’s divine purposes.

Jael (Judges 4:17-22) – A Woman of Boldness and Action

  • Faith Requires Courage – Though not a warrior, Jael acted decisively when the opportunity arose to defeat Israel’s enemy. She welcomed Sisera, the enemy commander, into her tent and killed him with a tent peg, securing victory for Israel.
  • Mothers as Protectors and Warriors – Like Jael, mothers stand firm in faith, making bold decisions to safeguard their families. Her courage reminds us to trust in God’s strength in difficult moments.
  • God Uses Ordinary Women for Extraordinary Purposes – Jael was not a military leader or a prophetess, yet God used her mightily. Many mothers may feel unseen, but Jael’s story proves that faithfulness in ordinary roles carries extraordinary significance.
  • Victory Through Faith, Not Status – Jael was not an Israelite but the wife of Heber the Kenite, a people known for neutrality. Yet she sided with God’s people and played a crucial role in their deliverance. Her faith, not her background, determined her impact.
  • Redemption Through Obedience – Jael’s actions fulfilled God’s promise to deliver Israel. Her obedience brought peace to God’s people, showing that a mother’s faith can bring victory and redemption for her family.
