A rewarder is someone who pays wages. God rewards all who diligently follow Him. No one can outgive God—He gives much more than we put in, far beyond what we deserve.
However, some people approach God transactionally, knowing He rewards. They come to church expecting returns for their actions and often stay only for a while.
On the other hand, there are those who are genuine lovers of God. These individuals follow the principles outlined in Hebrews 11:6, which states:
But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
Understanding Hebrews 11:6
- Faith is Active
Faith is demonstrated through our actions. It is more than belief; it is seen in every love-inspired act we do for God.
- Galatians 5:6 Faith working through love. True faith expresses itself in love and is evident in our actions.
- Hebrews 11:1 reminds us that faith is tangible: Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Through Hebrews 11, we see examples of people who walked in faith by action.
Without love-inspired actions, it is impossible to please God. 1 Corinthians 13:2 If I have a faith that can move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing. Love drives true faith. No one can follow God wholeheartedly without loving Him.
- Believing That He Is
Faith means believing that God is everything. Your actions reveal whether you truly believe this.
For instance, Paul declared in Philippians 3:8 that all he valued in life was like rubbish compared to knowing Christ. Those who believe God is everything do not follow Him for the rewards but because they love Him deeply. Their pursuit is not transactional but relational.
- Diligently Seeking Him
To diligently seek God means to crave Him, to carefully and earnestly pursue Him. This pursuit is motivated by love, not by the desire for rewards. Some people seek God only for blessings or answered prayers, but true seekers are consumed by their love for Him.
How Do We Diligently Seek God?
- Have a Personal Relationship with Him – Seek to know God for who He is, not for what He can give.
- Study the Word – Dive into Scripture to understand His nature and will.
- Prayer – Spend time in communion with God. Acts 13:2 shows the early church ministering to the Lord—praying and loving God for the pleasure of it.
- Worship – True worship comes from the heart. Hebrews 13:16 Do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. Worshiping from the heart leads to peace and a deep revelation of God.
- Living Sacrifice – As Romans 12:1 Present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. This means willingly submitting your time, resources, and entire being to God. When your life becomes a sweet-smelling sacrifice to Him, it pleases God.
- Sharing the Gospel – Those who diligently seek God also seek His kingdom. They ensure the gospel is preached to everyone. 1 Thessalonians 2:19-20 describes the joy of leading others to Christ: For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when He comes? Is it not you?
- Giving to Support the Gospel – It is impossible to diligently seek God without giving to support His work. Matthew 6:19-21 reminds us that where our treasure is, there our heart will be also. Like Abel, who brought an acceptable offering to God (Hebrews 11:4), those who seek God are diligent and cheerful givers (2 Corinthians 9:7).
- Ministering to One Another – True seekers of God serve others. Hebrews 6:10 God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him as you have helped His people. Serving others is an act of love toward God (Romans 12:11).
The Nature of God’s Reward
Galatians 6:9-10 outlines the principles of God’s reward:
- Don’t Grow Weary of Doing Good – At just the right time, there will be a harvest. Even if men fail to acknowledge your efforts, God’s reward is certain.
- God Determines the Timing – You may not see immediate results, but God’s reward always comes at the perfect time.
- God’s Reward Will Outlive You – His blessings often extend to future generations. Psalm 37:25 I have been young, and now am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread.
Conclusion
Let us strive to seek God earnestly, love Him deeply, and serve Him wholeheartedly. His rewards are sure, eternal, and far beyond anything we could ever imagine.
